Tex Zippers

Standard Zipper Products

The Tex Range of Standard Zipper Products

4 Coil zippers are made from polyester, and are colloquially known as polyester zippers. Traditionally, these zippers used to be made with a Nylon coil, so some people still refer to this zipper as a Nylon Zipper, although these are now made from Polyester.

Elements

The elements of this zipper are formed by precise coiling of polyester monofilament coil. They are available in two sizes; Coil 3 and Coil 5.

Slider

Coil zippers can be ordered with painted sliders, or electroplated sliders. Painted sliders are painted to achieve a close color match with the color of the zipper

Applications

These are commonly used in pants, jackets, kidswear and bags. Coil zippers are typically most cost effective, and are highly versatile, so are the mostly widely used zippers.

Special Finishes

Coil zippers are available in a wide variety of colors, and also in special finishes such as metallic finishes. The ‘Textallics’ range of zippers offers metallic look on coil zippers.

These can be used on children’s garments as a replacement for metal zippers, or in bags for a unique shine.

3     Metal zippers are made by stamping or die-casting precision metal elements onto a polyester tape.  Because of the versatility of metal finishing options, the slider and chain can be electroplated to give a wide variety of finishes, including antique finishes, old finishes, bright finishes and dull finishes. Tex’s metal zippers are available in four sizes; Metal 3,  metal 4, Metal 5 and Metal 8.

Elements

The elements in Metal zippers are typically made from brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. These are stamped onto tape using very high precision machines, where tolerances are as slim as 0.02mm. A wide variety of finishes is available in the elements of the zipper. Click here to look at our finishes.

Slider

Metal zippers are almost ways ordered with electro electroplated sliders, closely matching the finish of the chain, or elements, of the zipper. However, since sliders and chain are plated using different techniques, the color and tone of the slider and chain will always have a degree of variability. A wide variety of finishes is available in the sliders for this zipper. Click here to look at our finishes.

Applications

Metal 3 is recommended for women’s dresses and light- duty pants. Metal 4 (Equivalent to 4.5) is typically used in more rugged pants and denim bottoms. Metal 5 and 8 are more chunky, and are typically used in outerwear, jackets and bags. However, some customers use Metal 5 and 8 zippers in pants as well.

Tex has a high degree of visibility of its metal supply chain, and our metal products are complaint with CPSIA, REACH and other standards that cover restricted chemicals such As Lead and Nickel, and are also free from Conflict Minerals.

Metal Zippers: Important Precautions

Metal zippers are prone to oxidation when subjected to abrasive physical or chemical washes. This means that metal zippers require extreme care when being put through industrial washes of any kind. 1 Invisible zippers are specially manufactured coil zippers with the chain hidden behind the tape, so that the zipper is invisible from the front when stitched on to a garment.  Only a high quality zipper manufacturer can make a good quality of this highly precise zipper. The true test of how robust an invisible zipper is the Reciprocating Test, specified under British Standards, BS3084. It should be noted, that while most American customers have no requirements to adhere to British standards, all of Tex’s invisible zippers meet and exceed the requirements of this standard.  Tex’s invisible zippers are available with robust woven tape, or highly delicate knitted tape.

Elements

The elements of this zipper are formed by coiling of polyester monofilament. There’s an added precision of hiding the coil behind the tape. They are available in two sizes; Invisible 4 and Invisible 3.

Slider

Invisible zippers are typically ordered with dyed-to-match sliders, so that they merge with the garment and become truly invisible. Only a very limited range of pullers is available with invisible zippers, since the slider of this zipper serves no ornamental purpose, and is designed to blend in with the fabric.

Applications

These zippers are typically used in dresses and skirts, and other high end women’s garments. They are also used in home furnishing applications such as cushion covers, mattress covers and poufs. In garments with light and flowing fabrics, the lighter knitted invisible zipper is used so that it takes the shape of the garment. When heavier fabrics are used, a woven invisible zipper can be used to increase strength.

Invisible Zippers: Important Precautions

Invisible zippers are not recommended for children’s garments, as they contain a link-type puller which is not suitable for children’s applications. On garments with embroidery, beadwork or cross seams running across the zipper, appropriate tolerances must be ensured in stitching. It is critical that presser foots are used for stitching, as the top 3 causes of failure of these zippers are: 1. Fabric getting tangled with zipper 2. Excessive load created by cross seams or heavy fabrics 3. Impedance in the zipper track caused by beadwork, embroidery or other embellishments
